Safe Spaces

What is a Safe Space?

A Safe Space is a place where LGBTQ+ people can feel safe, welcome and supported. If you visit a place which displays the Safe Spaces sticker, it means that people of all genders and sexualities can feel relaxed and protected in that place.

Safe Spaces are vital as being out in public can often be dangerous and debilitating for LGBTQ+ people. Being a Safe Space means that companies are committed to implementing policies that meet the needs that LGBTQ+ people have when visiting their establishments.

This sounds like a great scheme for my organisation. How do we get involved?

We run two similar schemes: one for small businesses and retail spaces, and the other for larger businesses. For more information on either scheme, please email [email protected]

Small businesses and retail spaces

For smaller companies, we come along to your offices or retail space and give training to all your staff (typically 1-2 hours) on the issues facing the LGBTQ+ community, how you can be more inclusive and on how to spot and deal with Hate Crime.

Larger organisations

For large businesses we offer to work with your HR department to review you HR policies and procedures to ensure they are inclusive and we can also offer templated policies which you can use (such as a policy for people who whish to transition within your organisation).

We then can provide “Train the trainer” facilities to assist you to roll out an awareness program to all your staff to ensure they understand the issues facing the LGBTQ+ community, how you can be more inclusive and on how to spot and deal with Hate Crime.
