Join us for the first talk of LGBT+ History Month at Wolfson College! Today we will have Beth Rees, whose presentation is titled: “Yes, Asexuality Does Exist: A look at asexuality then and now”. It will be a short talk of 25-30 minutes including questions This is the link to the talk on Teams: https://tinyurl.com/y2oueayj
Bethan is a long-time member of Ancient House Museum of Thetford Life’s Teenage History Club. In 2018 the group curated the exhibition “Pride of the People: Helping History Out of the Closet”, looking at local LGBT+ history Alongside this, they created and held LGBT+ history tours of various Norfolk Museum Service museums, took the exhibition in its pop up form to various Pride events, and made a video to help other curators find LGBT+ stories in museums.
Her presentation is a light-hearted and fun look into asexual history. It tells the story of William Pitt The Younger through an asexual and homoromantic lens, and looks at the development of asexuality from the spinster movement to an identity with growing awareness. Bethan also talks about her experiences as an asexual/aromantic person today.
