Imagining queer futures for South West Asia and North Africa
October 18 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
queer qandī Journeys and Destinations film fest 9-18 October 2020. www.queerqandi.org
The panel is chaired by artist and activist Jade Pollard-Crowe. The panellists are Ghadir Shaif, festival director, Kooz, Palestine; Dr Sima Shakhsari, University of Minnesota, US; Selim Mourad, film director, Lebanon and Ümit Ünal, film director, Turkey.
This panel will look at ‘LGBTQ+ SWANA’ as a conceptual tool for fostering collectivist action, coalitions and collaborations in order to envision futurity. The panel asks the question; what modes of collaboration are needed in order to build meaningful connections across heterogeneous identities, understandings and geographies? Taking film, art and literature as mediums currently being utilized by those who identify within LGBTQ+ SWANA, the panel will discuss the significance of these outputs upon the construction of these identities and the potential which arises from the employment of the arts.
Places must be booked in advance, which will then give you access to the online event link. Book a free place here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/imagining-queer-futures-for-south-west-asia-and-north-africa-tickets-118513401775
